Elaborate on the MRS (Market Requirement Statement) and how far you can push your engineering staff to get out of their comfort zone and relate to the MRS?
(ep1073)
Generally speaking you have to convey the fact that the MRS, be it a CRS (meaning customer requirement) or market (meaning two or more), your job is to represent the needs of that market in a way that engineering can understand. This provides them with the knowledge they need to develop the subsequent specifications, find out what the business can do today and tomorrow.
If there are some differences between engineering and marketing you have a check and balance situation. One thing you want to avoid is a specification that has the input of only one party. The MRS is a document that represents the market the product is going to serve, saying why is needed and how it is used to aid engineering in developing the detailed specification.
Emphasize that the MRS represents the market, not marketing's view.
